Godwin Emefiele: EFCC urges court to reject no-case submission
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has requested that a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja dismiss a no-case submission filed by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele faces an amended 20-count charge involving allegations of criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, conspiracy, and obtaining money by false pretences. The charges include the alleged withdrawal of $6.23 million and the conferment of corrupt advantages through the awarding of CBN contracts.
Prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, argued that the evidence presented establishes a prima facie case, necessitating that Emefiele enter his defence. Regarding contract-related counts, the prosecution presented exhibits featuring Emefiele’s approval signatures and corporate records linking him to companies associated with his wife and brother-in-law, such as Architekon Nigeria Limited. The prosecution further alleged that certain contracts, valued between $6 million and $10 million, were awarded without undergoing required reviews.
