Goethe-Institut Mexiko celebrates 60 years with film and art festivals

The Goethe-Institut Mexiko is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a diverse program of film, music, and visual arts. A central feature is the 25th German Film Festival, running from September 24 to October 3, themed ‘Futuros Desobedientes’. The festival includes nine feature-length fiction and documentary films competing for the Kino Prize, alongside Mexican short films selected by Imcine to foster cinematic exchange between Germany and Mexico.

In the realm of visual arts, the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) is hosting an installation by German artist Julian Rosefeldt featuring 13 projections starring Cate Blanchett. Additionally, the Museo Tamayo will present ‘El evento de un hilo’, an exhibition exploring global textile narratives through works by 16 contemporary artists.

Musical and educational activities include a punk-themed workshop for children at the Museo Universitario del Chopo and fashion intervention workshops. Founded in 1966, the Goethe-Institut in Mexico serves as a major hub, coordinating projects across Central America and the Caribbean.
