Gofal Baziad sentenced to 24 years for 2004 murder

Gofal Baziad has been sentenced to a maximum of 24 years in prison for the February 2004 murder of Jason Palmer. A NSW Supreme Court jury found Baziad guilty of the killing, which occurred after Palmer was allegedly bludgeoned and stabbed in a Sydney apartment.

Following the murder, Baziad fled to Indonesia, where he remained for two decades to avoid detection. He was eventually arrested in 2024. The victim's body was discovered approximately three weeks after the incident, concealed in a sleeping bag and weighed down with sandstone rocks in the Nepean River at Menangle.

Justice Phillip Boulten described the disposal of the body as a ‘plainly callous act.’ The trial highlighted Baziad's history of jealousy regarding the victim's relationship with Renny Palmer.
