GOG Begins Development of Native Linux Version of Galaxy Game Client

GOG Ltd. has confirmed that it is actively working on a native Linux version of its Galaxy game client. Co‑CEO Krzysztof Papliński announced that the company has hired a specialist with Linux expertise to lead the effort, though no release date has been set. The project aims to give Linux users, particularly owners of the Steam Deck, a direct way to install, update and manage GOG purchases without third‑party tools. Development is still in early stages and the team is evaluating technical approaches, with the use of Valve’s Proton compatibility layer expected to play a key role. Papliński described the undertaking as a major technical challenge that will require considerable time to complete.
