Gogoro steering failure investigation yields conflicting Taiwan-Japan reports
A dispute has emerged regarding the cause of a steering structure failure in a Gogoro scooter, following conflicting forensic reports from Taiwan and Japan.
The Taiwan Automobile Repair Industry Association, acting on a judicial commission, concluded that the component failure was primarily caused by severe external force during an accident. In contrast, a report from Japan’s JFE Techno-Research, commissioned by the owner's family, suggests the possibility of pre-existing anomalies in the welding area and material processing.
The Japanese analysis utilized advanced methods, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, to examine the fracture surface and material composition. The central scientific question remains whether the part suffered an immediate break due to impact, or if a pre-existing crack or manufacturing defect led to the eventual failure.
