Goiatuba secures promotion to Série C after draw with São José-RS
Goiatuba has secured promotion to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C after a 1-1 draw against São José-RS at the Estádio Divino Garcia Rosa. Having played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the Série D playoff, Goiatuba utilized their superior campaign record to clinch the spot.
São José-RS took an early lead in the 22nd minute through a goal by Grafite. Goiatuba equalized late in the second half following a penalty awarded after Bruno Jesus fouled Gabriel Silva in the area. During the penalty sequence, goalkeeper Fábio Rampi saved the initial attempt by Daniel de Pauli, but the subsequent rebound resulted in an own goal by Diney, securing the draw for Goiatuba.
This marks Goiatuba’s return to the third division for the first time since 2003. They join ASA-AL, Gama, ABC, and Uberlândia in the upcoming Série C season.
