Goiânia authorities cite owner of abandoned downtown building

The Goiânia City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Efficiency (Sefic), has issued a citation to the owner of an unfinished and abandoned building located at the corner of Avenida Araguaia and Rua 2 in the city center. The structure has been unused for approximately 25 years.

Local authorities report that the building's condition has contributed to urban degradation and public health risks due to waste accumulation and disease vectors. The Military Police noted that the site has served as a support point for criminal activities, including drug trafficking, theft from pedestrians and businesses, and bodily injury.

In response, the municipal government has scheduled a meeting with the owner to seek an urgent solution. Social assistance teams have also been deployed to the area to provide support and referrals to social services for individuals using the structure as shelter.
