Goiânia authorities fine man for illegal tire disposal

A tire repairman was caught by the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) illegally disposing of tires in the Northwest region of Goiânia on Wednesday, October 14. Following the observation of the act, the environmental inspection team from the Municipal Secretariat of Efficiency (Sefic) was summoned to the scene.

The offender was issued a fine of R$ 5,000, based on Article 62 of Federal Decree No. 6,514/2008, which establishes a minimum penalty for irregular waste disposal. During the approach, the individual admitted to previous illegal disposals at the same location, claiming ignorance regarding proper disposal methods.

Authorities noted that proper tire disposal is critical to prevent stagnant water, which facilitates the spread of dengue fever, and to avoid environmental issues such as flooding and the obstruction of water sources. The Companhia de Urbanização de Goiânia (Comurg) operates five ecopoints where citizens can dispose of up to four tires per person, per trip, free of charge.
