Goiânia celebrates 93 years with population growth and urban expansion

Goiânia is celebrating its 93rd anniversary, reaching a population of 1.503 million residents according to IBGE data. This represents a 0.5% increase from the previous year and a total growth of approximately 127,000 people since 2012.

The city's urban area now covers 304.42 square kilometers, making it the fifth largest urbanized area in Brazil. Goiânia also maintains a high level of greenery, with 89.6% of residents living on streets with at least one tree, ranking second among Brazilian capitals.

Demographic shifts indicate an aging population, with those aged 60 or older now comprising 16.6% of the population. Additionally, women make up 52.4% of the city's inhabitants. While the city serves as a financial hub for the agribusiness sector, researchers note that this growth has also brought challenges regarding spatial segregation and urban inequality.
