Goiânia historic Celg building to become energy memorial
A historic building in Goiânia, formerly the Celg Sociocultural Center, is being transformed into the Memorial da Energia do Brasil Central. Located in the Setor Leste Universitário, the structure was built in 1956 and served as the first energy distribution and control center in Central Brazil, playing a strategic role in the region's infrastructure and the construction of Brasília.
The project, led by Elysium Sociedade Cultural and sponsored by EDP, aims to preserve the site's technical heritage. Original equipment from the 1950s, manufactured by Italian and Swiss companies, will be relocated and displayed within the building.
The memorial is designed to be an interactive educational space, utilizing digital exhibitions, virtual reality, and educational games to teach visitors about electricity, sustainability, and efficient energy consumption.
