Goiânia hosts pro-Lula rallies ahead of presidential second round

Supporters of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva are holding a series of political rallies in Goiânia as part of the campaign for the 2026 presidential election second round. A major mobilization occurred on Sunday, October 11, drawing over 50,000 people from social movements and student groups to march from Praça Universitária to Praça Cívica. During that event, a couple was detained by the Military Police after provoking demonstrators.

A follow-up rally is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, featuring Guilherme Boulos, the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency. This event is part of a broader national tour involving dozens of municipalities.

Campaign organizers, including Luis Cesar Bueno, aim to expand the electoral base in Goiás to reverse the first-round results, where opponent Flávio Bolsonaro received 53.6% of the valid votes. The campaign has set a target of gaining at least 400,000 additional votes in the state to reach a goal of 1.5 million for Lula.
