Goiânia launches citizen portal to remove unsafe overhead wires

The municipality of Goiânia, Brazil, has opened a WhatsApp channel (62 3416‑2653) for residents to report low, loose or fallen overhead cables on public streets. Reports, including photos or videos and the exact address, are forwarded to the city’s Agency for Regulation (AR) and incorporated into the ongoing "Operação Cidade Segura".

Since the operation began in October 2025, 38 telecommunications firms have taken part in joint clean‑up crews, regularising 4,396 poles, covering 119.6 km of urban roads and removing 110.7 tonnes of unused cable and infrastructure. Collected materials are delivered to the Municipal Infrastructure Secretariat (Seinfra) for proper disposal. Officials say citizen submissions help pinpoint additional problem spots, improving the efficiency and reach of the safety work.
