Goiânia meteor shower lights sky with green bolide

A meteor shower illuminated the night sky over Goiânia on the early hours of Friday, August 31. The event was recorded by Pedro Augusto, a computer‑engineering student at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), who operates a home‑based observation station. His images show numerous meteors of varying brightness, including a particularly bright fireball that emitted an intense green light as it entered the atmosphere.

The phenomenon was also observed in several other Brazilian states the previous night, but clear skies and minimal cloud cover in Goiânia provided optimal viewing conditions. Augusto, who has been documenting astronomical events since 2020, said he intends to continue building his collection of observations and studying the science behind such occurrences.
