Goiânia provides free school transport for 1,900 students

The Goiânia City Hall is providing free school transportation to 1,937 students within the municipal school system. The service targets students from both rural and urban areas in the North, Northwest, West, and Southwest regions who are enrolled in schools located more than four kilometers from their homes.

Municipal Secretary of Education Giselle Faria stated that the service is essential for student access and retention, noting that it prevents long, risky commutes and combats school dropout rates. The current distribution includes 188 students in rural routes, 556 in the North and Northwest regions, and 1,193 in the West and Southwest regions.

Due to an increase in student demand that exhausted the existing 2023 contract, the Municipal Secretariat of Education (SME) implemented an emergency direct contract in October. This contract, valued at R$ 243,000 per month, provides buses, drivers, and monitors for up to 12 months to cover routes in the North and Northeast regions, including neighborhoods such as Residencial Primavera and Juscelino Kubitschek.
