Goiânia reduces elective surgery waiting list by 39%

The city of Goiânia has reduced its waiting list for elective surgeries by 39% over a one-year period. According to municipal data, the number of patients awaiting procedures dropped from approximately 60,000 in 2025 to about 40,000 in 2026.

This reduction is attributed to service reorganization and expanded offerings, including a partnership with Hospital Santa Maria. Through the ‘Agora Tem Especialistas’ program, the hospital will provide over 620 procedures in specialties such as cardiovascular, gynecological, vascular, and digestive health.

Significant decreases were also noted in specialized consultations. Ophthalmology waiting lists fell by 98.34%, and plastic surgery lists decreased by 95.64%. Other areas seeing reductions include angiology (54.71%), neurology (29.58%), and endocrinology (26.5%).
