Goiânia reopens Praça Ciro Lisita after major traffic redesign

The municipal government of Goiânia has completed a one‑week overhaul of Praça Ciro Lisita in the Setor Coimbra district, cutting the former roundabout in half to allow Avenida Castelo Branco to run straight through the plaza. The project, part of the Corridor Castelo Branco‑Mutirão, introduced new traffic signals, dedicated pedestrian lights, marked crosswalks and synchronized semaphores, aiming to boost vehicle flow by more than 30 %.

Local merchants and commuters reported immediate benefits: shop owners expect higher customer visits thanks to new parking spaces, while delivery riders and drivers note smoother and safer travel. The redesign also eliminates a historic bottleneck that caused frequent accidents and congestion during peak hours.
