Goiânia restructures specialized STI care services

The City of Goiânia has restructured its Specialized Care Service and Testing and Counseling Center (SAE/CTA) to improve assistance for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The improvements include physical infrastructure upgrades, reorganized service flows, and an expanded medical team, including the hiring of two additional infectious disease specialists.

The unit, located at the Cidade Jardim Health Center, serves over 7,000 patients and conducts approximately 1,000 medical consultations per month. Services provided include infectology, coloproctology, and urology, supported by nursing, pharmacy, psychology, and social work professionals.

Available diagnostic services include rapid tests for HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis. The facility also performs rapid tests for tuberculosis and cryptococcosis for people living with HIV, as well as viral load and CD4 cell count exams. The pharmacy also provides pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
