Goiânia simplifies environmental licensing for low and medium-risk businesses

The city government of Goiânia has announced new measures to simplify environmental licensing for low and medium-risk businesses. Mayor Sandro Mabel introduced the changes at a meeting with the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services, and Tourism of the State of Goiás (Fecomércio-GO).

Under the new rules, approximately 1,000 economic activities will benefit from a streamlined process. Low-risk activities will receive licenses automatically, while medium-risk enterprises can use a self-declaratory model subject to subsequent inspection. Businesses with higher potential for environmental impact will continue to undergo rigorous technical analysis.

Additional regulatory changes include allowing individual operating permits for different businesses located at the same address, such as pharmacies within gas stations. The administration also plans to regulate shared loading and unloading zones for businesses within a 150-meter radius. To support these digital transitions, the city is investing over R$ 300 million in hardware and intends to implement artificial intelligence for project analysis by October.
