Goiás crackdown on illegal land sales and mass property regularization
Authorities in Goiás uncovered a clandestine land scheme in the rural district of Cezarina, where 56 lots were sold without proper titles, registration, or legal electricity connections. The operation, conducted by the Ministério Público de Goiás together with state environmental, utility, and housing agencies, also found illegal deforestation and occupation of a protected area along the Rio dos Bois. Residents reported paying property taxes despite lacking formal deeds, and the seller allegedly directed buyers to seek legal assistance on their own.
In the state capital, the Goiânia municipal government regularized the ownership of 506 homes in the Jardim Caravelas neighborhood. Vice‑mayor Cláudia Lira, representing Mayor Sandro Mabel, announced that the families will receive official titles and free cartório registration, fulfilling a long‑standing promise after 46 years of informal occupation. The administration aims to regularize 40,000 properties within the current term, improving legal security and access to public services for the residents.
