Goiás electoral court bans PL campaign ads using Iris Rezende image and outdoor billboards

The state Democratic Labour Party (PDT) in Goiás filed a case with the Regional Electoral Court (TRE‑GO) demanding that the Liberal Party (PL) stop using the image and legacy of former governor Iris Rezende in its campaign material. The filing, led by PDT state president Kowalsky Ribeiro, argues that the PL’s use of photographs, videos and references to Rezende constitutes “symbolic usurpation” that could mislead voters. The party seeks immediate removal of the content and a daily fine of R$ 50,000 for non‑compliance.

Separately, the same court ordered the removal of two outdoor billboards in Goiânia that featured PL candidates for the 2026 elections alongside former president Jair Bolsonaro and former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro. Judge José Godinho Filho ruled the ads were premature and violated election law, which only permits campaign advertising from 15 August of the election year. The judge set a 24‑hour deadline for the ads to be taken down, imposing a daily fine of R$ 2,000, capped at R$ 20,000.

Both rulings occur as the parties position themselves for the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial and legislative contests in Goiás.
