Goiás energy customers face loss of social tariffs

Over 193,000 electricity customers in Goiás, Brazil, risk losing their 'Tarifa Social' discount if they do not regularize their registration data by December 31, 2024. The benefit, which provides a 100% discount on consumption up to 80 kWh per month for eligible families, could be canceled starting in January 2027 due to discrepancies in registration.

To maintain the benefit, customer data on energy bills must match the records in the 'Cadastro Único' (CadÚnico) or the 'Benefício de Prestação Continuada' (BPC). Specifically, the holder's CPF must be correct, the name on the bill must belong to a family member registered in CadÚnico, and the registered municipality must be identical in both systems.

Equatorial Goiás reported that while 193,235 customers currently hold the benefit, they are in an irregular status. Additionally, 414,445 other customers in the state are eligible but have not yet completed their registration. Discrepancies should be addressed through the nearest Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) or via Equatorial Goiás service channels.
