Brazil's Goiás and Ribeirão Preto film festivals spotlight environmental cinema and extend submissions

The 27th Festival Internacional de Cinema e Vídeo Ambiental (FICA 2026) concluded on 21 June in the historic city of Goiás. The six‑day event featured 38 works from seven countries, focused on "Water and Climate in Brazil's Sources," and awarded the Cora Coralina prize to João Dumans' feature "A Noite e os Dias de Miguel Burnier." The festival hosted 20 free workshops on audiovisual production, drones and environmental communication, and was supported by a R$ 6.1 million investment from the Goiás government and partners.

The Festival Internacional de Cinema de Ribeirão Preto (FIC Ribeirão) announced that its registration deadline for the second edition has been extended to 30 June. The festival, slated for early November in Ribeirão Preto (São Paulo), aims to attract more projects by aligning the deadline with local production calendars. Organisers highlighted a rise in the technical and narrative quality of submissions and plan a free programme of debates, audience‑development activities and market‑building events for filmmakers and students.
