Goiás' FICA 2026 Launches Student Documentary Showcase

The 27th edition of the International Festival of Cinema and Environmental Video (FICA 2026) will feature the inaugural ECOA program, presenting ten documentaries created by students from Goiás state public schools. The films, finalists of the audiovisual category of the 10th Bariani Ortêncio Literary Essay Contest, will be screened on 17 June at the Palácio da Instrução in the city of Goiás.

The documentaries explore local cultural traditions, community memories and ancestral knowledge, covering topics such as the Congadas of Catalão and Niquelândia, quilombola traditions in Brejão and Mesquita, cheese production in Cabacinha, textile work in Pontalina, and folklore like the story of Chica Doida in Quirinópolis. The program also includes a discussion session titled “Open Screen for Education: Creative Processes and Student Audiovisual,” bringing together students, teachers and filmmakers to reflect on the production experience. The festival runs from 16 to 21 June under the theme “Water and Climate in Brazil’s Springs,” with support from multiple Goiás state agencies and educational institutions.
