Goiás government ordered to compensate goalkeeper shot by police

The State Government of Goiás has been ordered by the judiciary to pay compensation to Ramon Souza, a former goalkeeper for Grêmio Anápolis. The ruling follows an incident on July 10, 2024, during a match against Centro Oeste, where Souza was struck in the leg by a rubber bullet during a confrontation involving the Military Police.

The 7th State Treasury Court of Goiânia determined that the state was responsible for the incident, noting that the use of controlled impact ammunition was disproportionate to the situation at the time of the discharge. The total compensation awarded amounts to R$ 97,161.82, which includes R$ 70,000 for moral damages, R$ 20,000 for aesthetic damages, and R$ 7,161.82 for material damages.
