Goiás political campaigns intensify amid debates and tax reform concerns

Political activity in Goiás and the Federal District is intensifying as candidates for various offices engage in debates, campaign tours, and strategic meetings. In Goiás, gubernatorial candidates Daniel Vilela (MDB), Luis César Bueno (PT), Marconi Perillo (PSDB), and Wilder Morais (PL) recently participated in a debate covering public security, health, education, and the economy. During the debate, tensions rose as Vilela accused Perillo of a past scandal involving a suspected clandestine distillery at the Serra Dourada Stadium, an allegation Perillo denied.

Campaign schedules for the Goiás candidates include various carreatas, interviews, and meetings with business leaders and local authorities. Meanwhile, in Aparecida de Goiânia, Gracinha Caiado (União Brasil) secured the support of 19 city councilors for her Senate bid during a meeting with Mayor Leandro Vilela.

On the economic front, a study by the Instituto Mauro Borges indicates that the approved Tax Reform will significantly impact municipal revenues in Goiás. The cities of Senador Canedo and Rio Verde are projected to lose the most revenue—approximately R$ 68 million and R$ 149 million annually, respectively—due to the shift from taxing production to taxing consumption.
