Brazil TSE approves 13 presidential candidates for 2026 elections

The Brazilian Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has officially approved the registration of 13 candidates for the 2026 presidential election. Among the registered names is businessman Pablo Marçal (PRTB), who will run 'sub judice' while legal challenges regarding his eligibility continue.

Marçal remains ineligible until 2032 following a decision related to his 2024 São Paulo mayoral campaign, specifically regarding the 'concurso de cortes' strategy. Despite this, his candidacy is valid for the upcoming race, and he will appear on the electronic ballot with the number 28. Additionally, the TSE has previously prohibited him from using public campaign funds.

As the 2026 election cycle intensifies, various candidates are increasing their campaign activities across Brazil, including rallies, interviews, and local visits. Meanwhile, the TSE has also formalized agreements with international observer missions from the European Union, the Arab League, and Uniore to monitor the electoral process.
