Goiás hosts 27th FICA environmental film festival June 16‑21

The 27th International Festival of Cinema and Environmental Video (FICA 2026) takes place in the city of Goiás, Brazil, from 16 to 21 June. The six‑day program combines film screenings, competitive sections, workshops and a public forum. Competitive sections include the International Washington Novaes showcase, the Goiás Cinema showcase, and a section featuring Indigenous and traditional peoples’ cinema.

State Culture Secretary Yara Nunes emphasized that the festival “is a cultural heritage of Goiás and one of the world’s most important environmental film festivals.” The event also features the Horizons Forum, gathering scientists, researchers and indigenous leaders to discuss climate change, biodiversity, indigenous rights and audiovisual production challenges. Chef, presenter and socio‑environmental activist Bela Gil will join a discussion on “Redes do Cerrado” on 20 June, addressing sustainability and protection of Brazil’s Cerrado biome. The festival aims to broaden access to culture through free public activities, training labs for students and audiovisual professionals, and showcases on Black audiovisual work, mobile‑device production and emerging technologies.
