Goiás political race heats up as Perillo tours municipalities and court allows Caiado's defamation suit
Ex‑governor and pre‑candidate Marconi Perillo has intensified his campaign in Goiás, visiting 107 of the 200 municipalities he plans to tour before party conventions. The visits, part of the Avança Goiás movement, are aimed at gathering local demands and shaping his government program, with discussions covering health, infrastructure, education, public safety, housing, employment, regional development, agribusiness and social policies.
The Goiás State Court (TJ‑GO) voted unanimously to accept the criminal complaint filed by former governor Ronaldo Caiado against state deputy Major Araújo. The case, concerning alleged calumny, injury and defamation in social‑media posts, was allowed to proceed despite claims of parliamentary immunity, which the court rejected. If convicted, Araújo could face up to three years and six months in prison plus a fine.
