Goiás politicians forge new alliances ahead of upcoming elections

Mayor of Anápolis Márcio Corrêa (PL) announced his support for Major Vitor Hugo (PL), the former federal deputy, in the race for a seat in Brazil's Chamber of Deputies. Corrêa highlighted Hugo’s role in securing his own mayoral election and noted the former deputy’s record of directing budget amendments to Anápolis, stating, “Quem bancou minha eleição aqui, quem bancou minha ida pro PL chama‑se Major Vitor Hugo. E por isso, eu estou com ele ao meu lado hoje e vou andar em todas as ruas com ele.”

In a separate move in Aparecida de Goiânia, councilor Lipe Gomes (PSDB) withdrew his pre‑candidacy for the Goiás Legislative Assembly and pledged to coordinate the campaign of Romário Policarpo (Cidadania), who is also contesting a state deputy seat. Gomes said the alliance will strengthen Policarpo’s presence in the metropolitan region and help Gomes secure re‑election to the municipal chamber in 2028.
