Brazil mobilizes security and logistics for 2026 elections

Brazil is implementing extensive security, logistical, and infrastructure measures to ensure the stability of the 2026 general elections. The Armed Forces will provide logistical support to 121 locations across 44 municipalities in eight states and will assist in the voting and counting process in 482 municipalities across 12 states. In Acre, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) is facilitating the transport of voting machines and poll workers to isolated indigenous communities.

Security forces are mobilizing nationwide. In Paraná, all 399 municipalities will see integrated operations involving the Military and Civil Police, the Fire Department, and the Federal Police. In Goiás, an integrated operation will cover all 246 municipalities. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) will coordinate with Regional Electoral Courts (TREs) to manage traffic, including a restriction on large vehicles (exceeding 2.40m in width, 4.40m in height, or 19.80m in length) on single-lane federal highways between 7:00 and 18:00 on election days to prevent congestion.

Utility companies are also preparing contingency plans. Energisa Acre and Âmbar Energia in Amazonas have mobilized specialized teams and real-time monitoring to prevent power outages at polling stations. Additionally, the National System Operator (ONS) will block scheduled maintenance that could impact the power supply during the first and second rounds of the elections to maintain grid reliability.
