Brazil implements various women's health initiatives for cancer prevention
Various Brazilian states have launched specialized health programs focused on women's wellness and cancer prevention. In Mato Grosso, the Secretaria de Estado de Justiça (Sejus) expanded gynecological care for incarcerated women through the Mãos Amigas Project, recording over 1,300 consultations, prenatal care, and specialized exams across seven prison units.
In Goiás, the Goiás Todo Rosa program, a partnership between the State Health Secretariat and the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), has conducted over 1,100 genetic tests to identify hereditary risks for breast and ovarian cancer. The initiative uses the Unified Health System (SUS) to provide free testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations.
Mato Grosso's Hospital Central also expanded services during the Outubro Rosa campaign, performing over 100 procedures in a single day, including mammographies and colposcopies. Additionally, the municipality of Sinop implemented extended nighttime hours at basic health units to facilitate access to preventive screenings and rapid testing for sexually transmitted infections.
