Goiás prosecutors charge martial artist with attempted murder

The Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO) has filed charges against a martial artist for the attempted murder of a 17-year-old boy in Goiânia. The incident occurred at Praça das Artes following a disagreement between the teenager and the man's son during a football match.

Witnesses captured video footage showing the man applying a chokehold (mata-leão) on the teenager, who had expressed a desire not to fight. The victim lost consciousness during the approximately one-minute restraint and subsequently suffered convulsions, requiring medical attention. Prosecutors noted that the assailant's expertise in jiu-jitsu and muay thai aggravated the violence of the attack.

The suspect, who had previously been indicted for qualified attempted murder by asphyxiation and corruption of minors, denied the allegations, claiming he only immobilized the youth. However, the MP-GO has requested his arrest after he allegedly violated a judicial order by appearing on a balcony overlooking the scene of the incident.
