Goiás to host traditional Cavalhadas festivities
The city of Goiás will host the Cavalhadas festivities this weekend, with events scheduled for Friday and Saturday starting at 18:00 at the Hélio de Loyola Stadium. These cultural and religious celebrations, which have been recorded in the municipality since 1820, feature reenactments of battles between Moors and Christians inspired by medieval Portuguese and Spanish traditions.
Goiás is the 13th participant in the 2026 Cavalhadas Circuit, a series of festivities spanning 16 municipalities organized with support from the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult). The city, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, continues a tradition in the region that dates back to 1751. The circuit is scheduled to continue through September, with upcoming festivities in Corumbá, Pilar, and Silvânia.
