Gol denies mass flight cancellations to Northeast Brazil
Gol Linhas Aéreas has denied social media allegations regarding the mass cancellation of flights from Southern Brazil to the Northeast on the eve of the second round of presidential elections. The airline clarified that only one flight, G3 1979 from Porto Alegre to Salvador, was cancelled due to technical issues with the aircraft.
Following the cancellation, Gol reported that the 184 affected passengers were rebooked on other flights and that an extra flight was organized to depart Porto Alegre in the early hours of Sunday. The company emphasized that safety remains its primary priority.
The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) confirmed the single cancellation and stated that there are no abnormalities in the Brazilian air traffic flow. Despite the reports, Anac noted that the number of cancellations remains within standard operational patterns.
The Ministry of Ports and Airports has requested information from airlines and asked Anac to closely monitor airport operations to ensure voters can travel to their registered polling stations. While some politicians and public figures raised concerns about potential electoral interference, no evidence of widespread flight suspensions has been found.
