GOL Linhas Aéreas to suspend direct flights to Punta Cana

Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aéreas has announced it will suspend direct flights between São Paulo (Guarulhos) and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, starting in February 2027. The decision is part of a broader network restructuring driven by rising aviation fuel costs.

The company reported that the price of aviation kerosene has doubled, now accounting for approximately 40% of its total operating expenses. In addition to the Punta Cana route, GOL will suspend direct services to Miami and Orlando from Brasília, Fortaleza, and Belém. The airline also plans to interrupt operations to Montevideo, Uruguay, and Asunción, Paraguay.

To mitigate the impact on travelers, GOL stated it will continue to offer connectivity through connecting flights and strategic partnerships, leveraging its network of over 60 code-share and interline agreements.
