Gold and silver prices drop sharply on MCX

Gold and silver prices experienced a significant decline on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) over a five-day trading period. Silver prices dropped by more than 14,000 rupees per kilogram, falling to approximately 2,11,418 rupees per kg for December expiry. This represents a substantial decrease from its historical high of over 4,20,048 rupees per kg recorded in January.

Gold prices also saw a reduction, with 24-karat gold decreasing by approximately 3,500 rupees per 10 grams. Analysts suggest that despite the onset of the festive season, a major surge in prices may be limited. Factors contributing to market volatility include geopolitical tensions in West Asia, crude oil prices approaching 110 dollars per barrel, and fluctuations in the Indian rupee.

Market experts anticipate limited volatility in the coming weeks. While rising energy costs could fuel inflation and cap metal gains, a softening in US government bond yields may provide some support to precious metals. Investors are also monitoring economic data from China, the US, and PMI figures from major economies including India and the UK.
