Gold and silver prices face volatility amid market positioning shifts

Market analysts are evaluating recent price declines in gold and silver, with differing perspectives on whether the sell-off signals long-term weakness or a strategic market reset.

One analysis suggests the current weakness may be bullish due to low open interest on COMEX gold and silver contracts. This indicates reduced speculative exposure, potentially clearing out crowded positions and leaving room for fresh investor demand to drive prices higher. The timing of the decline may also be influenced by contract expiry and reduced liquidity during China’s Golden Week holidays.

Conversely, technical analysis indicates that silver has broken to the downside, suggesting strength in bearish trends. This downward pressure is attributed to rising yields, which make non-yielding assets like precious metals less attractive compared to interest-bearing instruments. Analysts note that any upward movement may face resistance at previous support levels and moving averages, such as the 300-day moving average.
