Gold and silver prices fall over a week in India, hitting new lows

India's precious‑metals market saw a sharp decline this week, with 24‑carat gold dropping by about ₹1,257 per 10 g to ₹1,56,463 and 22‑carat gold falling to ₹1,43,320. The lowest gold price was recorded on 27 May at ₹1,56,072 per 10 g, while the peak earlier in the week was ₹1,58,857 on 25 May. Silver also slipped, losing ₹2,650 per kg to settle at ₹2,63,350, after reaching a high of ₹2,71,100 on 25 May. Analysts linked the downturn to rising inflation expectations and heightened geopolitical tension, notably the U.S.–Iran conflict, which kept crude oil prices elevated. Global market instability pushed gold’s ounce price toward $4,600 and silver toward $76.
