Gold and silver prices face global volatility amid shifting interest rate expectations

Gold and silver prices have experienced significant volatility in early September 2026. In India, precious metal rates saw sharp declines in early September, with gold prices hitting three-week lows due to shifting expectations regarding US interest rates and rising inflation concerns. While some reports indicated a downward trend for 24-karat gold toward the ₹1,50,000 per 10 grams range, other regional markets like Hyderabad reported sudden price increases.

Globally, gold prices have fluctuated significantly, dropping from a 2026 record high of approximately $5,589 per ounce to levels around $4,300 per ounce. In the United Arab Emirates, gold prices showed a recovery trend, with 24-karat gold rising to Dh532 per gram as international prices rebounded above $4,400 per ounce.

Market analysts attribute these fluctuations to several macroeconomic factors, including tensions in the Middle East affecting crude oil prices, changes in US Treasury yields, and investor anticipation of Federal Reserve interest rate decisions.
