Gold and USD/JPY stabilize amid market caution ahead of central bank meetings
Global financial markets are entering a period of cautious observation ahead of upcoming monetary policy decisions from the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan. Gold prices have stabilized in the $4,160 range, facing resistance near the $4,200 mark.
Market sentiment has shifted toward neutral as the VIX volatility index rose toward 20, driven by concerns over debt levels in AI-related infrastructure companies which led to a decline in the S&P 500. Additionally, geopolitical tensions involving drone attacks on Russian refineries have contributed to volatility in crude oil prices, with WTI trading above $100 per barrel.
In the currency markets, the USD/JPY has been trading around the 158 level. While the Federal Reserve has not indicated an additional rate hike for October, the probability of a rate hike in December remains high. Investors are also monitoring upcoming economic indicators, including China's third-quarter GDP and Canada's Consumer Price Index.
