Gold climbs and silver falls in Indian futures as geopolitics weigh on markets
Gold futures on India's Multi Commodity Exchange rose by Rs 926 to Rs 1.59 lakh per 10 g (up 0.58%), spurred by renewed safe‑haven demand amid lingering geopolitical tensions and a dip in crude‑oil prices. Traders also looked ahead to U.S. Federal Reserve commentary and domestic unemployment data for clues on interest‑rate direction.
Silver futures for July delivery slipped by Rs 621 to Rs 2.62 lakh per kg (down 0.24%) as weaker global cues and concerns that high oil prices could sustain inflation pressured the market. Analysts linked the decline to ongoing West‑Asia conflicts, unsettled U.S.–Iran cease‑fire talks, and a strong dollar, which tempered traditional safe‑haven buying.
Both moves reflect the sensitivity of Indian commodity markets to global political and energy developments.
