Gold Coast light rail Stage 3 extension opens to passengers
The third stage of the Gold Coast light rail extension, known as the G:link, officially commenced operations on Sunday, 9 August 2026. The 6.7-kilometre extension adds eight new stations to the network, connecting Broadbeach South to Burleigh Heads.
The new route facilitates easier travel between various communities and key destinations, including Miami, Nobby Beach, and Mermaid Beach. The extension brings the total tram network to approximately 27 kilometres, allowing commuters to travel from Helensvale to Burleigh Heads without using a car. The journey between Broadbeach South and Burleigh Heads now takes roughly 17 minutes.
In addition to the new tracks, the project introduced five new trams, upgraded pedestrian and cycling facilities, and new bus interchanges at Miami and Burleigh. Government officials noted that the infrastructure is designed to support the growing community by strengthening transport connectivity and supporting local businesses and employment hubs.
