Gold Coast Suns secure historic AFLW win over Melbourne
The Gold Coast Suns secured a historic 22-point victory over the Melbourne Demons at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena, marking their sixth consecutive win in the AFLW. The 61-39 win is the Suns' first victory against Melbourne since joining the competition in 2020, strengthening their position in the top four with three rounds remaining in the season.
Charlie Rowbottom led the Suns with 33 possessions and six clearances, while Havana Harris, Mikayla Nurse, and Ava Usher each contributed two goals. Despite sweltering heat in the mid-20s, the Suns maintained momentum after trailing by three points at quarter-time.
In another Saturday night fixture, the Adelaide Crows defeated Richmond by 32 points at Ikon Park. Ebony Marinoff recorded 40 disposals and 13 tackles to help the Crows reach a 4-5 record, keeping them in contention for a finals spot.
