Gold Coast Transport Plan released to prepare for 2032 Olympics
The Queensland Government has unveiled the full Gold Coast Transport Plan, a comprehensive infrastructure package designed to manage population growth and prepare the region for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
Key road projects include Stage Two of the Coomera Connector (M9) between Pimpama and Coomera, which will serve as an alternative to the M1 motorway to reduce peak-hour congestion. Other major works involve upgrading Pacific Motorway interchanges at Dreamworld and Robina, and duplicating the Jabiru Island bridge to improve safety and accessibility.
The plan also prioritizes active transport, including new pedestrian bridges in Broadbeach and walking and cycling paths near Carrara Stadium. Long-term transit goals include extending the Gold Coast Light Rail from the University Hospital to Harbour Town and introducing new metro-style bus services to connect Robina, Burleigh Heads, the Gold Coast Airport, and Coolangatta.
