Gold ETF investments reach record highs globally and in India

Global gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced significant growth in the third quarter of 2026, reaching a record quarterly inflow of $30.7 billion. September alone saw $10 billion in inflows, following a massive $17.9 billion intake in August. This surge pushed global gold ETF holdings to a new record of 4,256 tonnes.

In India, gold ETF investments saw a 71.4 per cent month-on-month increase in September, rising to Rs 4,451 crore from Rs 2,597 crore in August. This growth occurred despite a broader decline in the Indian mutual fund industry, which saw net outflows of Rs 1.33 lakh crore, largely due to heavy redemptions in debt-oriented schemes.

On a global scale, year-to-date inflows for gold ETFs have reached $38.5 billion. UK-listed funds have emerged as a major driver of demand, attracting $9.5 billion so far this year and overtaking China as the largest source of country-level demand.
