Gold faces near-term bearish outlook despite long-term bull potential

Analysts are warning of potential short-term volatility and price corrections for gold, even as the long-term bull market remains intact. Przemyslaw K. Radomski, CFA, suggests that gold may struggle to maintain support levels near $4,000, citing technical warning signs such as bearish reversals in mining stocks and gold's failure to rally during periods of dollar weakness.

Several macroeconomic factors are contributing to this near-term pressure. High U.S. Treasury yields—with the 30-year yield above 5.5% and the 10-year near 5.2%—make non-yielding assets like gold less attractive to investors. Additionally, high oil prices may keep inflation elevated, limiting the Federal Reserve's ability to lower interest rates.

Market liquidity also plays a role; during sharp equity market selloffs, investors may sell gold to raise cash for margin requirements. While geopolitical tensions and large-scale money creation support a long-term positive outlook, analysts suggest a significant selloff could occur before the next substantial rally begins.
