Gold Fields receives environmental approval for Windfall gold project in Quebec

Gold Fields has obtained a key environmental authorization from Quebec’s Ministry of the Environment to begin construction on its Windfall gold project in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region. The certificate confirms that the project has completed the required environmental and social impact assessments under the province’s Environment Quality Act.

The Windfall project is considered one of Canada’s highest-grade gold developments. Once it reaches full production capacity, it is expected to produce approximately 300,000 ounces of gold annually. The company is targeting a final investment decision by February 2027.

This regulatory milestone follows the signing of the Uukiimau Agreement in June 2026, an impact and benefit agreement involving the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi, the Cree Nation Government, and the Grand Council of the Crees. The agreement establishes a framework for Indigenous participation and economic benefits related to the mine's development.
