Gold guilders of Archbishop Werner III. von Falkenstein discovered

A collection of 30 well-preserved Rhenish gold guilders was discovered in 1960 within a clay pot in the choir of the Waldbach parish church. The coins were likely buried around 1420 to protect them from an impending war, potentially serving as a church treasure.

Among the find is a gold guilder from 1409 belonging to Werner III. von Falkenstein, the Archbishop of Trier. The coin features Saint Peter on the obverse and the coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Trier and Münzenberg on the reverse. Currently, 20 of these coins are held by the Landesmuseum Württemberg, while the remaining 10 remain in Waldbach.
