Gold prices fall in Chennai, easing jewelry costs for Indian families

In Chennai, the price of 22‑carat gold fell by roughly ₹1,120 per tola, bringing the rate to ₹1,08,480 per tola. A gram of gold dropped by ₹140 to ₹13,560. The sudden dip offers relief to households planning weddings, engagements and other celebrations that involve jewellery purchases, and merchants expect higher footfall in stores. Analysts attribute the decline to recent movements in the US dollar, shifts in global economic conditions and expectations around US Federal Reserve interest‑rate policy. Similar price reductions were reported in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, though experts warn that international market volatility could cause prices to rise again.
