Borsa İstanbul and gold markets show volatility amid Fed policy shifts

Turkish financial markets and gold prices experienced significant volatility during the week of August 15, 2026. The BIST 100 index completed the week with a 2.85 percent gain, reaching 14,172.26 points. Within the stock market, Katılımevim Tasarruf Finansman emerged as the top performer with a 26.20 percent weekly increase, while Balsu Gıda saw the largest decline at 18.91 percent.

In the gold market, prices have fluctuated due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and shifting expectations regarding US Federal Reserve policy. Following recent profit-taking, gold prices saw a correction. Expert Mehmet Ali Yıldırımtürk noted that current dips could represent buying opportunities, maintaining a long-term bullish outlook. He projected that gram gold could reach between 10,000 and 11,000 TL by the end of the year, while ounce gold could target the 5,600 to 6,000 dollar range.

In the United States, weak retail sales and inflation data have lowered the probability of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in September. Market data indicates the likelihood of a rate hike has dropped below 50 percent, providing support for precious metals.
